On March 31, 2009, B.C. became the first province to require licensing by home inspectors, offering some protection to consumers. To be licensed, an inspector must be a member of a professional organization, have liability insurance and a criminal background check. It's a step in the right direction but consumers should still do their homework. Ask your next potential inspector some important questions. Here are a few:
- Can I see your credentials?
- How many years experience do you have?
- How many inspections have you done?
- What training do you have?
and what kind of report do you provide?
It also doesn't hurt to ask for references, annd check them.
